A major aluminum mill was faced with an environmental problem related to wastes from its casting lubricant.

Problem

The levels of fatty acid and triglycerides in their waste stream exceeded allowable limits.

Solution

MagChem scientists partnered with aluminum plant engineers and process technologists to develop a casting lubricant that meets and exceeds environmental requirements.

Results

An added benefit of the research undertaken to develop the casting lubricant was a marked improvement in ingot surface quality and a reduction in rejects. The replacement of their previous lubricant resulted I a saving of several million dollars in capital expenditures.
